Professional Bio

Tom Syson is a UK based trumpeter, composer, vocalist, and producer. His music fuses jazz heritage with contemporary and cross-genre influences, delivering an emotionally honest and unique output.

His recent solo releases include 'We’re Not Alone' (May 2024), supported by Help Musicians UK, which explores themes of men’s mental health through a balance of lyrical vulnerability and optimism. This was followed by 'The Necessity of Being Present' (August 2025), featuring vocalist J Appiah, a work centred on mindfulness and emotional awareness. Both tracks were recorded at Livingston Studios, with post-production by Chris Hyson.

In 2026, Syson will release a collaborative EP with pianist and arranger Harry Baker, bringing together elements of jazz, classical, and singer-songwriter traditions. Alongside his work as a solo artist, he maintains an active international career as a freelance musician and sideman, performing with artists including Stefan Mahendra and Olivia Murphy, and commercially with the White Keys.

Earlier in his career, Syson released two critically acclaimed contemporary jazz albums with his sextet and quintet, accompanied by UK tours. This work led to a feature interview on BBC Radio 3's Jazz Now, as well as national and international airplay and reviews from publications including Jazzwise and London Jazz News. Following these releases, he was named a Vincent Bach Trumpet Artist.

Syson has performed internationally at venues and festivals including the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, the Barbican, Porgy & Bess Vienna, and the Gibraltar International Jazz Festival. He has also performed with ensembles including the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra, the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Orchestra, and the BBC Big Band. As a commercial composer and producer, his music has had national and international television play, including broadcasts on the BBC.
